Yesterday, I found a rock.
Or more precisely, the keel of the sailboat I was helming found a rock.
It happened when returning from a nice afternoon sail... about 40' from our slip. So, we were going slow, it was super low tide, and I just happened to bumble into it - my first time docking at the new marina.
We got stuck. Marina staff were able to bring a boat around and kedge us free using the halyard.
An interesting experience.
Shout out to the great staff at Pedder Bay!
@kboyd The sea is always trying to kill us, sometimes she settles for embarrassing us.
@kboyd We found one on Saturday, on our way to go race. About 30 seconds after I posted a pic here.
Hit *hard*. Like lifted the boat out of the water hard. We were doing about 5kts. I believe the bottom of the bulb skidded across the top of a rock with the water being just an inch or two too low.
Don't think it damaged anything except a couple minor owies on the crew.
@kboyd Pedder bay entrance is pretty shallow for sure.
@alanhunter It's not normally that bad - tide was 0.8 and I went too far wide of the slip. Would've been fine otherwise. Draft is 4'.
