Politicians fear banishment by a party remade in #Trump’s image &… #primary opponents financed by #Musk, the president’s all-powerful partner & the world’s richest man.

“When you see important societal actors—be it #university presidents, #media outlets, CEOs, mayors, governors—changing their behavior in order to avoid the wrath of Trump, that’s a sign that we’ve crossed the line into some form of #authoritarianism,” said Steven Levitsky, a prof of govt at Harvard….

"Mark Warner on Fox: "I may disagree with the president, but I respect the office of the president. I'm probably not gonna be jumping up applauding a lot, but I owe him his due as president. The president has made great, great progress on border crossings. That's something we ought to🚨celebrate."
-A Rupar

Warner appears to have a problem with immigrants. It's disgusting that he's lauding #Trump on his crackdown of migrants at the border, esp. coming from a Dem.

@robertkaplinsky @pustam_egr @christianp @tao @marybourassa @mathequalslove @standupmaths @KarenCampe Hi friends and members of #mtbos and #iteachmath I need your help: I have a child and he needs to multiply. So in his school teachers teach him "multiply tables".

But I think in 21th century we could do better to memorize digit x digit tables.

Is there any method using only sums and counts and using ideally fingers to get \( a \times b \) without having to memorize?

You can justify using modulars forms of super-abstract-algebra if you want, but the problem is easy: find an east algorithm to get the multiplication of axb where a, b are interers < 9.

I did not find nothing more than:

- multiply by 9:

youtube.com/watch?v=wCpyag9XLg

- multiply by numbers between 6 and 9

youtube.com/watch?v=xetE0IN-w3 but it requieres multiply by numbers less than 5.

- ypu can reduce to memorize all multiply tables to just \( a \times b \) where \( a <b \) which gives us just 55 lines of memorization instead of 100.

But this are not ideal result.

I CC some university professors because perhaps you know some research about that rather than regular secondary or primary teachers.

Thanks in advance and sorry for disturb you.

the #left has to fucking *mob* #primaries2026. get 50 #AOC s in there

#centrist #democrats as super powerful is a lie

they are weak milquetoast

the dem party is just an empty vessel, fill it with what you want

(and because of #duvergerslaw in our shitty #fptp voting system #thirdparty is a dead end until we get #rcv)

anyone who does not show up to #vote in the #primaries #primary: shut the fuck up. you have no idea how to get effective change

@bolson

agreed 100%

we can go deeper

the #GOP used to be ambivalent, even helpful about #rcv #rankedchoicevoting like alaska

but national #republican ghouls noticed the problem:

they are for #votersuppression, not enhancing our choices. and so they banned it:

npr.org/2024/06/05/nx-s1-49695

now the #democrats aren't exactly in love with rcv, but there has been successes: maine, nyc, etc

so we must vote #democrat and push them to install rcv. make it an issue in #primary elections #primaries2026

Today is Dem #primary day in #Florida & also a chance to vote in some local elections. If you are a registered #Democrat be sure to get out & support the strongest #Senate candidate to beat Rick Scott, & whatever your party (or none), vote for the folks running for School Board who oppose #BookBans & for the local officials who care about our beautiful environment.

A #strong #democracy and trusted #electoral #system are foundational requirements for progress on any number of issues.

Donors who haven’t funded in this area, or see democracy issues as outside their interests, should take a wider view of how to advance their values.

Donors who already support work on voting and elections should consider ramping up their giving during this period of growing threats to U.S. democracy

⭐️Where to Donate for Voting Rights and Democracy

♦️Organizations focused on protecting and strengthening electoral systems.

Donors must first and foremost invest in shoring up the democratic system in the short term.

This means supporting #legal #efforts to
👉push back on unfounded claims of fraud as well as
👉challenging unfair election laws.

Funding for this strategy should also go to groups focused on
👉making voting easier and more accessible,
advocating for policies like
👉expanded early voting,
👉automatic and same day registration, and the
👉repeal of felony disenfranchisement laws.

On the legal side, donors can support the
🔹Brennan Center for Justice, brennancenter.org/
🔹NAACP Legal Defense Fund, naacpldf.org/
🔹Demos demos.org/
🔹and Campaign Legal Center campaignlegal.org/

All four groups engage in #litigation, #research and #policy advocacy.

♦️Organizing for a more expansive and inclusive democracy.

🆘 Low-income people, communities of color and young people participate in elections and civic life at lower levels than the general public.

✅ To create a more representative democracy and advance progressive change, donors should invest in organizations that work to engage these voters.

Groups like
🔹Community Change communitychange.org/
🔹and Center for Popular Democracy populardemocracy.org/

both work with and support #grassroots groups and leaders throughout the country,
with a focus on #working #class #communities of #color.

Donors can also support the
🔹Voter Participation Center and its c4 arm,
the 🔹Center for Voter Information, centerforvoterinformation.org/

which work to increase turnout among “#new #American #majority” voters,
as well as support groups focused on #young #voters,
such as
🔹NextGen America nextgenamerica.org/
and
🔹TurnUp turnup.us/

♦️Groups advocating for democratic reforms.

A range of reforms can help create a democracy that is more responsive,
offering voters more choices and fostering fairer outcomes as well as increased trust in our electoral system.

Donors can support
🔹FairVote, fairvote.org/

which advocates for #ranked #choice voting and #proportional #representation,
and has already had some success at the state and local levels;
and
🔹Unite America, uniteamerica.org/
which focuses on #independent #redistricting, #primary #reform,
as well as #instant #runoff voting.

In the race’s final days, #conservatives looking to oust #Omar mounted a late effort to take advantage of #Minnesota’s open #primary format & convince #Republicans to skip their party’s primary & instead vote for Samuels, a fmr member of the Minneapolis city council.

Royce White, the state #GOP-endorsed #Senate candidate, posted to X that he would gladly give up 5k votes in the fifth congressional district to help unseat Omar.
