Volunteering at school. Pencil sharpener wasn’t spinning. Brought home. Took apart and saw that white gear was slipping back out of contact. Put collar on shaft to maintain gear position. I suppose super glue could’ve worked. Hopefully uneven weight doesn’t wear out motor. #electricmotor #diy #mechanical #handyman #gears

2 - I'm currently attempting to shorten some curtains I bought. I am using safety pins and fabric glue. I saw her do it, but didn't pay much attention and wasn't really interested in learning at the time. I do t have a sewing machine, nor friends or family with the skills for this. I'm really just learning as I go.
We'll see how horrible this turns out.
Stay tuned!

In a bit more positive news, I got a plumber over this weekend to fix the kitchen sink, and now my sink looks a little bit more snazzier
Turns out the old bit was a bit cracked, and that's why water was leaking out!
#carpentry #climate #handyman Today I installed 3 pieces of wood that I custom ripped with a bevel using a skillsaw. Yes, a table saw would have been easier and a bandsaw for that matter, but I don't have those. The finish cuts were made with a Japanese handsaw. These pieces go at the bottom of a jalousie glass louver window. I removed all the window air conditioning units, except for 1 in a small room that does not have cross ventilation. So, I had to rebuild the jalousies as they were "maimed" to insert the units.
Cleaned the jamb with a putty knife, then sanded it down. Laid down a bead of windowtrim sealant, plopped my board into place (notched to fit at each end), and then carefully nailed in 4 places to secure it. Used a "nailset" tool and a hammer to hide the finishing nailheads, then caulked over it. In a week, after it cures, I can primer and paint. Thus I am undoing wasteful A/C and restoring the house. Since its barely 70 degrees F and breezy, the house, without a/c, is as cold as the computer room/office where I work. Cool enough.
Seen a couple of posts about house-sit. Anyone needing their home to be occupied and needs some light plumbing, electric, carpentry, home networking, gardening, or plaster work done while they are away? Send me a DM toot. #housesitting #handyman #security
#3goodthings for a Friday
The first mug of hot Bovril of the autumn
Balanced the new washing machine so it doesn't walk across the floor any more.
Re-timelining of the WIP is complete and coherent. I can no export it from Aeon and plug the dates into my fantasy date converter.
Time for a walk!
Repairing a dent I accidentally put in a laminate countertop. How’s your Friday?
