The Bill C-11 & Bill C-18 news in Canada is a study in utter stupidity & unintended consequences.

Canadians will lose their access & exposure to legitimate news & their ability to express themselves.

When this first came out I thought for sure it was a silly farce by old politicians who don't understand the internet. But apparently noone has managed to educate them & now we are a laughing stock soon to have platforms banning links to real news while conspiracies flourish. 🤦‍♀️😡

@syntaxseed They are doing what they are told by their political donors. Please stop thinking about it any other way. Nobody is laughing at us because they don’t care.

I just can't fathom what donors want this. Is it media companies who want to charge for linking to them? They are going to choke off their main sources of incoming traffic.

In fact if I wanted to HARM Canadian news media, this would be a great way to do so- make it expensive to give them visitors & exposure. It's like they forget that there is an infinite source of other distractions.

If there was an obvious beneficiary I could at least understand. This hurts everyone. 🤦‍♀️

@syntaxseed About 20 years ago we had the same argument being made by media companies — FB & Google should have to pay us for linking to our content. It failed then and will fail now. Just greed and an attempt to have gov’t subsidize Canadian media companies
