Anyone here know what the domain page.link is used for and/or who it’s managed by? It’s some sort of analytics.

In my quest to educate people about the dangers of QR codes I’m following the trail for a QR code directed at children on Swedish milk cartons.

The QR code (with the text “want to see something fun?”) resolves to a bit.ly link, which then resolves to a page.link which then redirects to a campaign website under the marketing agency’s domain name, rather than the child protection agency that is the owner of the campaign.

QR code -> bit.ly/briscoop -> brisar.page.link -> bris.frankfam.co

So they’re essentially teaching kids to dismiss the importance of verifying the sender of the information.

Scan our QR code, it will be fun!

Never mind how the phrase “Want to see something fun?” brings to mind grubby men in trenchcoats.

Hoping I’ll have time for a blog post this evening.

@axbom It's a domain used by to host so-called Dynamic Links. As an example, you can provide a Dynamic Link that, depending on the platform, links to a website, opens an app on your phone, or, if you haven't the app installed to the respective App Store Page. The service is deprecated, and links will stop working next summer.

FirebaseFirebase Dynamic Links  |  Firebase DocumentationFirebase Dynamic Links are links that work the way you want, on multiple platforms, and whether or not your app is already installed.
@jay Wow, thank you Jérôme, that is very helpful!! Okay if I mention you in my (yet to be written) blog post? Which will be in Swedish 😁

@axbom Självklart kan du det, det skulle glädja mig!
