But I also have at least one customer with a VPN I can't get to work on Linux (Cisco AnyConnect), so I also need an internal virtual switch and then some <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/netns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>netns</span></a> magic to us the right network.</p>

hyperreal<p>This is Emacs on WSL2. Does anyone know if there is a way to get rid of this ugly-ass window border? Or at least make it dark? It doesn't seem to use any X11, GTK, or QT styling. I followed this documentation to no avail. !JDA HAS MOVED!<p>Another failed day in the <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/SaltMine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SaltMine</span></a> yesterday. Feoh<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://social.mochi.academy/@Ambraven" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Ambraven</span></a></span> The Windows ecosystem can be incredibly jarring for folks coming from a *NIX background.</p><p>And sadly much as I enjoy using Windows as a desktop environment for my software development and platform engineering work, as a native target it's SUPER tricky.</p><p>I'm still honestly pretty frustrated at the faff involved in getting "full fat" <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://hachyderm.io/@neovim" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>neovim</span></a></span> to run there because it shells out to a C compiler for its treesitter extensions, so if you fail to run it from a command prompt with the special C compiler environment set? KABOOM.</p><p>And oh no you can't add that magic sauce BY DEFAULT because then you're just inviting a malware problem.</p><p>It's frustrating, and truth be told it's one of the reasons why I rely on the largess of others and enjoy things that are mostly built for me for native Windows (Like <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a> where folks have done just BOATLOADS of work to make it work wonderfully) and live/work inside the <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/WSL2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WSL2</span></a> environment for most things I do.</p>

🅴🆁🆄🅰 🇷🇺Количество машин хостящихся в #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=Microsoft" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Microsoft</a> #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=Azure" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Azure</a> являющихся #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=linux" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">linux</a> теперь, наконец таки, <a href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/linux-and-open-source-blog/announcing-availability-of-almalinux-as-an-endorsed-linux/ba-p/4282201" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">достигло 60% и более</a><br>Это при том, что больше 50% стало лишь <a href="https://www.zdnet.com/article/linux-now-dominates-azure/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">шесть лет назад</a>.<br>Количество официально одобренных для использования #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=Azure" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Azure</a> дистрибутивов — семь штук: Ubuntu, Debian, Flatcar Container Linux, Alma Linux (CentOS от Cloudlinux), Oracle Linux (читай CentOS), Red Hat Enterprise Linux и SUSE. <br><br>Так что развитие #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=WSL" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">WSL</a> (а точнее #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=WSL2" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">WSL2</a> ) в безопасности —&nbsp;#<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=Microsoft" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Microsoft</a> теперь костьми ляжет, но будет упорно поддерживать подсистему с ядром и окружением #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=linux" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">linux</a> на своих #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=windows" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">windows</a>. <br>Они теперь делают ОС, которая из коробки позволяет людям одновременно использовать на одной машине сразу несколько линуксов, как рабочие и тестовые окружения. Пока что со своим кастомным ядром, но вскоре, явно и с ванильными.<br><br>Получается, что windows превратится в подобие #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=Xen" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Xen</a> —&nbsp;когда в привилегированном dom0 вращается доверенная ОСь в лице windows, а все линуксячьи окружения разворачиваемые пользователем — в domU.<br>Эдакая смесь гипервизора для bare-metal и плеяды виртуальных машин, одна из которых выглядит для пользователя как бы основной. Фактически копия #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=QubesOS" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">QubesOS</a>, начатая командой Ионны Рутковской именно на базе #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=Xen" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Xen</a> и всё ещё активно развивающаяся.<br><br>В целом, ничего особенного, т.к. много лет в windows уже существует механизм поддержки старого софта. Когда ПО для старых-древних версий windows работает через аппаратную виртуализацию — запускается в неявно создаваемой виртуальной машине, где есть полная копия ядра старой версии windows. Теперь осталось совместить это с #<a class="" href="https://hub.hubzilla.de/search?tag=WSL2" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">WSL2</a> и выполнять ванильные ядра линуксов, жанглируя ими так же как ядрами старых версий windows.<br><br>В результате этих всех мутаций, windows превратится в нечто универсальное — позволяющее без плясок с бубнами, а дружественным образом для пользователя получать машину, на которой реально запускать и старый древний софт под винды, и всякий разны софт под разные линуксы.
