All of PHP 7.2 and earlier are now EOL! These versions will no longer receive security updates or bug fixes. It’s time to upgrade! https://php.net/eol.php
@chris so I've been finally working through getting up-to-speed Gutenberg Block development and came across an official Block Plugin scaffolding tool. https://developer.wordpress.org/block-editor/packages/packages-create-block/
I like how its organized and has everything needed to just start building your block. I was able to easily use this as I worked through Zac Gordon's block development course(Udemy). Now working through his full course to expand/fill-in the gaps.
How did you fair with your new block development?
@chris are you running Linux as your main local development OS?

The quest to design an ethical social media platform – Jennifer Johnson on The Week

How lovely to see such a nice article on Mastodon and ethical design in The Week from the journalist that @laura introduced to Mastodon.
Alright, so I'm $350 away from my $2000 goal, between my #HWI and Facebook fundraisers, for clean water. If I hit my goal I will sign up and run the crazy #GroundhogMarathon by @MarathonDonKern@twitter.com and @GRMarathon@twitter.com

Finally got the @Mastodon logo PR submitted to the #Automattic #SocialIcons repo in prep for #WordPress #JetPack support, along with an updated #Medium icon & new @Snapchat icon since I was in the groove. Oh, all from a #Chromebook btw. :-D https://github.com/Automattic/social-logos/pull/70
Self-promotion-ish
@curtismchale to increase the reach and virality of your blog. Since people will be able to follow your blog directly from Mastodon and other ActivityPub-compliant apps, they'll see your new posts pushed to their timelines without any additional effort on your part, and will be able to boost it, reply to it to comment, etc. For all practical purposes, your blog becomes a Mastodon user.
All this using a protocol that preserves user choice and freedom!
Self-promotion-ish
@timnolte Each user in your WordPress instance will likely get their own profile as well, so that comments and posts by them via WordPress will show up with the correct author in Mastodon.
I also have some cool ideas that are more out-there, but before I develop those out I want to work closely with blog owners to make sure I make something that's really useful.
Self-promotion-ish
@timnolte in a nutshell - your blog will be accessible from Mastodon (and other ActivityPub-compliant apps). It will look like any other profile, and when you publish a blog post that post will show up in the Mastodon feed. People will be able to follow your blog directly from Mastodon and your posts will show up in their timelines. There's a lot more on the roadmap: commenting on the post by replying to the Mastodon thread, @mentioning people in your posts, etc.
On Tuesday night at #wporl I gave a presentation called "Don't Be Afraid of Gutenberg", with some info on how to slowly transition, avoid it, or embrace it, and some reasons to be hopeful for the future of WP site building. https://obm.io/2xWTktA
@sethgoldstein sorry I've been a little incognito on @wpsocial.live did you shut it down? Switched over to it in Tusky and there is nothing loading.
#Hashtags are great. They're not "cool" anymore, and idiots abuse them; but they enable platforms to be self-organized by the users without much tech skill.
With all of the anarchists etc. here, that kind of grass-roots understanding should be implicit.
#Trending #tags are BOTH crucial and dangerous. #Trends bring people into conversations, help onboard new users, and keep people coming back.
But harassment and abuse need to be fought at the platform level.
How can we have BOTH?
I truly believe that #ActivityPub (the protocol behind #Mastodon) has the potential to redefine the way we create and connect on the internet. But to get there, we need to spread the word - a network is only as valuable as the people in it.
I want to get that ball rolling - I wrote a blog post about how ActivityPub is going to change the internet. Check it out here: https://jeremydormitzer.com/blog/what-is-activitypub-and-how-will-it-change-the-internet/. And please boost/share to your other networks so we can keep making the Fediverse bigger!
I am speaking tomorrow in #Buffalo about accessibility at @CodeDazeConf@twitter.com. Still some tickets left: http://codedaze.me/
