Yeah if you're old enough to remember building #HTML websites with <table> then David Walsh's post is relatable.

I think I could add "HTML image maps" to the list (remember this method of creating clickable areas on an image?). #webdev
@davidbisset I vividly remember creating a detailed image map for our high school website that allowed clicking on each sports coach in a single group picture to take you to the relevant biography page. Only time I actually used Adobe Dreamweaver for anything, so I could just click on each point in the maps
@jwkicklighter i remember Dreamweaver made that FAIRLY easily, otherwise you had to figure out the coords!
@davidbisset dammit, you just reminded me I had to write Java applets once. And ActiveX controls. And make them work in IE4/5 *and* Netscape.
(Project's moto, after the table-driven form-focussed design of the home page, was: Submit or die!)
Love this! I’m of a similar vintage. My blog is a static site/azure static web app. Ive been in the process of building a basic counter (eventually going to be old school odometer style, natch).
Azure static web apps allow you to define virtual paths to route certain requests to functions. I think I’m going to opt for /cgi-bin/ as a little Easter egg for my follow olds.
@davidbisset I could add 1x1 transparent spacer.gif, frameset, Geocities... Oh the good old days
